And Now For Something, Well, New
Wherein the author rediscovers his login and shoves out an update about the current state of projects.
I have spent the day—oh, more than a day—fiddling with text and graphics. How much text? How many images? What kind of images? How much time should I spend finding supporting images that aren't in the books, but which give flavor? Is my text strong enough to carry a reader past a lack of fancy images?
Ugh, the second-guessing that is prepping your first Kickstarter project.
I've backed *mumble mumble* many over the years, and most of the time, I'm already predisposed to back something when I show up. I don't wander around much these days; there are several shelves full of Kickstarter rewards around the office already. But this is the first time I've run one myself, and so I'm deep in the weeds this weekend as far as "how much" and "wherefore" and "what's the correct order?"
Oh, and I should have a video. So there's that, as well. I have an idea, which requires a handful of props.
Some have been easier to track down than others.
And then I need to refresh myself on video editing software, which has undoubtedly changed dramatically since the last time I poked at Premiere (not that I poked at all it all that well the first few times). Or I should find some other package so as to not be entirely reliant on the existing subscription model package which I'm seriously considering ditching, which will lead to having to relearn a bunch of skills all over again.
Anyway, if you’re keen about special edition hardbacks of the Night Office books, there should be a Kickstarter soon. Here’s the link to be notified when I turn this thing on.
I had a birthday last week. I made noises that I was now officially too old to learn new skills, and yet, here I am. Eventually, I'll get a chance to do some writing, but in the meantime, there are graphics to hack together, book covers to design, stories to read, and all sorts of other publishing administrativia.
Oh, we're doing another volume of Cozy Horror. The reading period for Even Cozier Cosmic starts on June 1st, which means I’ll be reading and reading and reading through July (and then frantically doing layout so I can have this book for the HPL Film Festival this year). I'm going to try to find a cool spot to lie down for August, and then September will come roaring along. Underland has one, two, three—many—books on the roster for this year. I also need to figure out if I'm going to revisit Underland Arcana, and if so, how and when.
Then, suddenly, it'll be next year, and all the plans I'm cooking now will be different, because that's the way of it. Getting scattered is easy; finishing projects is tricky.
Onward with the tricky.
Hi. It’s been a bit. Whatcha working on?
